Purpose 802.17-2004 defines a Resilient Packet Ring Access Protocol for use in Local, Metropolitan and Wide Area Networks for transfer of data packets at rates scalable to many gigabits per second 802.17b amends 802.17-2004 and extends the class of frame types and device types that can achieve spatial reuse to significantly improve bandwidth efficiency on Resilient Packet Rings.
