Overview • Aviation is the design, production, and maintenance of aircraft • November 21, 1783: age of aviation began with the first human flight in a hot air balloon • December 17, 1903: the Wright brothers flew the first fully documented flight • World War I accelerated the expansion of aviation • 1927: Charles Lindbergh’s transatlantic flight • By the beginning of World War II many towns and cities had built airports
Overview • After World War II thousands of qualified pilots were released from military service, many training aircraft became available • Most widely-used passenger jet was the Boeing 707 • Since 1960s most important innovations have taken place in instrumentation and control • The arrival of solid-state electronics, the Global Positioning System (GPS), Satellite communications, small and powerful computers have changed the industry • Navigation systems that allow pilots to navigate accurately, view obstructions and other aircraft on a map, even at night or in low visibility
Aviation industry opportunities • Quicker to travel than anything else in the world • Possibilities to travel to all around the world • One of the safest ways of travel • More and more people start traveling by planes even on short destinations rather than using cars • Comfortable and interesting traveling experience • More airlines appear in recent years, leading to higher level of competition and so lower prices for customers
Threats of aviation industry • As the aviation industry grows the pollution also increases, increasing the level of the green house effect • Some other traditional ways of traveling are starting to be useful, such as railway travel. • Because of the competition and the low ticket prices, not enought attention might be payed to the safety, and that could lead to unfortunate accidents
