What is an RSS Feed? • RSS Feed stands for Real Simple Syndication Feed • Used to publish frequently updated works from websites, blogs, news headlines • Information in feed will often include full or summarized text, author and publication date • RSS Feeds can be collected/organized using an aggregator
Why Subscribe to RSS Feeds? • Can be used both professionally and personally • Simple way of getting updated Table of Contents from Scholarly Journals • Keep up with news from professional organizations • Read news headlines from your favorite newspaper or online newsource • Easy to pick and choose what feeds you want
Google Reader • Google Reader is an RSS aggregator • Will collect your RSS Feeds from a variety of blogs, news sources, websites, or scholarly journals • Serves as a personal inbox for information from the web • Able to access from any computer as long as you have access to the internet
Adding Content to Your Feed • Many websites, blogs, and journals will have RSS Feeds • You can also create a search in a database and create a RSS Feed from it • Copy and paste the Feed identifier into your Google Reader account • Google Reader will then check these feeds for updates • When you log on you will see if your Feeds have new items in them
Google Reader Public Page • Can share your items with your friends, simply by sending them to relevant links • Click on sharing icon of an item and will be part of your public Google page • Can also email these items directly
