  2. Timetable • Monday – double block 1 & 2 • Tuesday – block 6 • Wednesday – block 3 • Friday – block 5

  3. Aim of the Course Higher Administration aims to build on the knowledge, understanding and skills developed in Standard Grade or Intermediate 2 Administration in an integrative way

  4. Prior Learning • You should have successfully completed Standard Grade Administration at Credit Level or Intermediate 2 Administration. • In addition, Standard Grade English at Credit Level is also recommended.

  5. Course Structure • The course is split into two units:- • Information Technology for Management (80 hours) • Administrative Services - (40 hours) • The units are taught concurrently in an integrated manner with their being a holistic approach to the course • An additional 40 hours are available for consolidation and preparation for external assessment

  6. Administrative Services • Effectiveness in the workplace • Changing working practices • Recruiting, developing & supporting staff • Organise, support and record meetings • Importance of customer services

  7. Information Technology for Management • Use of software/hardware • Sources of information • Problem Solving • Presentation of work • Electronic communications • Effect of new technology • Social and Legal implications

  8. ASSESSMENT • To gain the award of Higher Administration you must successfully complete all internal unit assessments as well as the external exam. • You level of performance in the external exam will determine the grade of Higher you achieve.

  9. Final Exam (external assessment) • 2 papers – 60 marks each • Paper 1 – (1 hour 20 minutes) theory • Paper 2 – (1 hour 20 minutes) practical

  10. Paper 1 – (1 hour 20 minutes) • Written paper examining your knowledge and understanding of the course. • A) case study with compulsory questions • B) 2 extended response essays from a choice of 5

  11. Paper 2 – (1hour 20 minutes) • Use of Information Technology for problem solving in business • Examining and testing the IT skills you have learned throughout the course

  12. Working Ethos • There will be a professional and business like approach to work within the classroom. • You will be expected to work within set time constraints from an early stage • This will require you planning and monitoring your time to ensure deadlines are met.

  13. Student Responsibilities • attend regularly • meet any homework deadlines set • prioritise your work and set targets for yourself • monitor your progress • follow health and safety requirements • look after equipment and materials • co-operate and negotiate with colleagues • use your initiative • maintain records of your work • organise an effective file management system • hand in work of a standard acceptable in business • work both on your own and at times with others
