Overview of Primary MSTI Initiatives • Facilitated pathways between local community colleges and CSULB • Partnerships with local corporations (e.g., Boeing) • Specialized courses for CSET preparation or Subject Matter Authorization • Recruitment seminars/meetings/materials • Program advising
Overview of Primary MSTI Initiatives • Monetary support for candidates (stipends, scholarships) • Other support for candidates (e.g., seminars, tutoring, on-going advising) • Course improvements (e.g., revise curriculum, update technology and equipment) • Support for tenure-line faculty (e.g., travel, supplies, research resources) • Support for graduate students (e.g. research with math education faculty, seminars)
Specialized Content Courses for Mathematics Teachers–Benefits • Provides alternative sequence for 32 units needed for Subject Matter Authorization • Includes content needed for CSET exams • Explores content in ways appropriate for teaching secondary mathematics (e.g., focus on concepts) • Models/examines some teaching strategies for middle school mathematics (e.g., integrate technology and cooperative projects)
