How to find contrast clues • Identify unfamiliar words • Look for signal word • Identify two things that are being contrasted • Use this information to figure out what the words mean

How to find definition/restatement clues • Identify the unfamiliar word • Look for punctuation that might set off a definition after the unknown word • Read to see if there is a word that signals that a definition may follow. • Find the definition or restated information • Read this word/phrase carefully to figure out the meaning of the unknown word.
