Hematopoiesis Red Cells Platelets
Leukopoiesis : White Blood Cell Formation
Leukemia Leukemia is a malignant disease characterised by an abnormal and excessive proliferation of white blood cell precursors, blockedin a differentiation rate, and invading the whole bone marrow. Then a medullar insufficiency settles down because of a lack of red blood cells (source of anemia), normal white blood cells, mainly polynuclear (leukoneutropenia, source of serious infections) and platelets (thrombopenia, source of hemorrage provoked or spontaneous). Character : acute ou chronic Type :myeloid, lymphoid, or monocytic Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML) is one of the most common type of leukemia
Serial blood account and the corresponding Lomb periodogramPascal Fortin and Michael C. Mackey in “Periodic chronic myelogenous leukaemia : spectral analysis of blood cell counts and aetilogical implications” (Brit. Journal of haematology, 1999, 104, 336-345)
An Example – Modelling Hematopoiesis and a Case of Stress Erythropoiesis in the Bone Marrow Some data: Blood: 55% Plasma – 45 % Blood cells Within the 45%: 99% are RED BLOOD CELLS – Size decreases with maturity (from 14-19 µm for blasts to 7-8 µm for reticulocytes) 0.2-04% are WHITE CELLS and LYMPOCYTES Size decreases too as the red blood cells with a size of more mature cells slightly larger than for RBC) 0.6-08% are PLATELETS Size INCREASES with maturity (order of 50 to 150 µm for the Megacaryocytes)
