Trophic Levels • Definition: feeding level of one or more population in a food web • Organisms on same trophic level • Same number of food chain steps from the energy input into the system • First trophic level—primary producers • Second trophic level—all the primary consumers • Third trophic level—all the secondary consumers • 10% of the energy at a particular trophic level is incorporated into the next trophic level • Human Impact: Overhunting can destroy/overpopulate a tropic level and disrupt the harmony of a food web
