  3. Recognize… • What Bullying is: • An intentional written, verbal, or physical act against another student • It can be: • Verbal (Indirect and/or Direct) • Physical • Sexual • Property

  4. Recognize… • What Bullying looks like: • Verbal (Direct) • Threats • Group threats • Teasing • Jokes • Texting • Verbal (Indirect) • Ignoring/Isolation • Gossip

  5. Recognize… • What Bullying looks like: • Physical (Direct) • Blocking someone’s path • Physical restraint • Pushing/Kicking • Hazing • Fighting • Drive-bys • Murder

  6. Recognize… • What Bullying looks like: • Sexual • Teasing with sexual overtones • Touching • Slapping • Innuendos/Jokes • Pictures, emails, graffiti • Sexual assault • Rape

  7. Recognize… • What Bullying looks like: • Property • Hiding belongings • Theft • Extortion (blackmail) • Vandalism • Destruction

  8. Recognize… • How it makes victims feel: • Left out • Anxious • Insecure • Low self-esteem • Fearful • Depressed • Withdrawn • Aggressive • Angry • Vengeful

Recognize… • What role you have in stopping/preventing Bullying: • Bystander – use positive peer pressure to encourage others to be Empathetic • Use positive words – avoid sarcasm, teasing • Offer a positive or encouraging comment – helping someone else feel good about themselves only makes you feel better Possible Discussion: Think about things you have seen: Are they bullying, what did you do, how do you think that person felt?

  10. Refuse… • Refuse to listen to bullying behavior • Tell people to stop • Refuse to participate in bullying behavior • Refuse to keep “secrets” Possible Discussion: What are some things that make it difficult to stand up for yourself and others?

  11. Report… • Bullying needs to be reported • If adults don’t know, it will not change • People you can tell at school: • ANY ADULT • That adult will tell an Administrator: • Mrs. Annand • Ms. Williams • Mrs. Perkins • Or a Counselor: • Mrs. Moore • Mrs. Drake • Ms. Kerr

Report… • Speak up! • You are telling not to get the person in trouble; You are telling to STOP bullying • Possible Discussion: • What would stop you from reporting? • How could you overcome those things? • Once you have reported to an adult: • What would you like to see happen that would make our school safer?

Discussion Topics and/or Writing Prompts • Think about things you have seen:Are they bullying, what did you do, how do you think that person felt? • What are some things that make it difficult to stand up for yourself and others? • What would stop you from reporting & how could you overcome those things? • What would you like to see happen that would make our school safer?
