Ardaas • “Ardaas” means Prayer . • A Sikh will read through a formal Ardaas at least twice a day. • As with all faiths, Ardaas (Prayer) is a source of strength and support. • For Sikhs, Ardaas to the Guru is done in times of good or bad to: • 1) seek the support of the Divine Being, • 2) offer Thanks, and • 3) Ask that all may prosper in acceptance of the Will of God.

STRUCTURE OF Ardaas • Remembering our Guru: • There is only One Divine Being • Let us remember the 10 living Gurus – may we live by their example, • And let us remember the lasting light found in the teachings of the Eternal Guru Granth Sahib Ji. • Remembering Gursikhs: • Let us remember the devoted Sikhs who lived their lives working hard and sharing their wealth while remembering God.

STRUCTURE OF Ardaas • Honoring Sacrifices & Martyrs: • Let us remember all of sacrifices made by those brave souls who - in the face of great struggle – never gave up their identity or their principles and gave their lives for the Sikh Faith. • Remembering our Institutions: • Let us remember the Five Thrones and pray for the well-being of every Gurdwara in the world.

  5. STRUCTURE OF Ardaas • Prayer Begins (formally): • First, may the whole of the Khalsa pray and meditate upon your glorious name. May peace and joy reach us by such remembrance. • The Gifts of Sikhi: • May you grant us the gifts of: • Stewardship / Devotion • Long, Unshorn Hair • Discipline • Discernment • Trust • Faith • And Naam – the biggest gift of all.

  6. STRUCTURE OF Ardaas • Mental strength • May we remain humble and low, yet live by the highest of thought and intellect. • Praying for our Institutions: • Please guide us to continue our selfless service and uphold our faith at all Gurdwaras across the world.

STRUCTURE OF Ardaas • Purpose of Prayer • “O’ Almighty – the Honor of those without honor, the Power of those without power, the Shelter of those without shelter…” • This prayer is being recited for _________________. • Nanak! Through the Divine Force, we live in excellence and ecstasy! • May everyone prosper within your Will! • The Pure-hearted Ones are Divine; All are Victorious under the Lord.
