FAS INTERCONNECT A request from Industry as input to the Consult21 BB/LLU Working Group
* * * * * * Flexible Access Services (FAS) Exchange building CMSANs Egress Ethernet Switch (serves SP) Dedicated BW to single CMSANs FMSAN CMSAN Groups (max 20k users per group) SP Metro network Aggregate Access (AA) Dedicated BW to CMSAN groups Ingress Ethernet switch Note: Figure shows bandwidth (BW) delivery to single AA. Can deliver to any AA on any Metro.
Interconnect Fundamentals • The service should be available for interconnect from the following locations with the 21CN network: • Metronodes • At tier 1 MSAN sites • Directly at the site of the FMSAN, CMSAN or ‘CMSAN group’
Three forms of delivery to the operator should be available • Customer site for operators without the relevant supporting infrastructure • In-Building for those operators with a presence within the exchange. • In-Span for those operators with an ISH interconnect at the exchange.
Key aspects of the details of the interconnect options • Efficient, cost effective use of the physical infrastructure. Fibre, is a valuable and limited resource. • Resilience / Protection. Circuit resilience (multiple circuits presented) or circuit protection (the use of physical or datalink protection mechanisms) should be available. • Failure detection. A link failure detection mechanism needs to be present to clearly indicate the unidirectional or bidirectional interconnect failure to both parties. • Link management. Ethernet OAM support should be provided when standardised support is available.
