  1. GENESYS Link Modeling Vs. MATLAB Link Modeling By: Vittal Balasubramanian 6th December, 2005

  2. Link Model

  3. Impedance Profile(No Connector)

  4. Insertion Loss (MATLAB)(No Connector)

  5. Insertion Loss (GENESYS) (No Connector)

  6. Return Loss (MATLAB) (No Connector)

  7. Return Loss (GENESYS) (No Connector)

  8. Package Substrate Model PkgSubstrate (differential); Z=100 ohm differential; L=10mm; K=4;

  9. Tx Board Model TxBoard (differential); Z=100 ohm differential; L=75mm; K=4;

  10. Transmitter Output Eye (No Equalization)

  11. Link Output Eye(No Equalization, No Connector) MATLAB GENESYS Eye = 187 mV Eye = 187 mV

  12. Transmitter Output Eye (With De-emphasis) • The figure shows the output from the driver with a FIR 3-tap de-emphasis of 0.81, -0.15 and –0.04

  13. Link Output Eye (With De-emphasis, No Connector) MATLAB GENESYS Eye = 213 mV Eye = 213 mV

  14. Transmitter Output Eye (With Pre-emphasis) • The figure shows the output from the driver with a FIR 3-tap de-emphasis of 23%, 4% and 1%

  15. Link Output Eye (With Pre-emphasis, No Connector) MATLAB GENESYS Eye = 337 mV Eye = 337 mV

  16. Link Output(With Connector, With Pre-emphasis) Eye = 305 mV

  17. Results from 05-103v0 (Tyco – Uses Pre-emphasis) Eye = 381 mV

  18. Link Output(With Connector, With De-emphasis) Eye = 154 mV

  19. Return Loss (S22)With Connector

  20. Comments • Results different from those presented last meeting because: • Used lower loss tangent for traces as specified in last meeting • MATLAB used to generate Eye patterns • Results show better agreement with Agilent (Vince) and Tyco (Dean) • Would be preferable to use Pre-emphasis rather than de-emphasis as illustrated by wider opening in eye with pre-emphasis
