Refining the Thesis Remember that your thesis is tentative at this point. • As you write, refine your thesis. • The kind of judgment you make in your thesis is related to the kind of question you’re asking about your topic.
Presence: Making the Essay Personal You can make the essay personal explicitly or implicitly. • Decide whether the use of first person will enhance or detract from your essay. • Find your own way of saying things with or without saying “I.”
