HISTORICAL BACKGROUND • Pakistan National Conservation Strategy (NCS) 1992 • An independent public interest think tank that provides advice to public, private and voluntary organizations, and undertakes policy-oriented research. • The Institute acts as a generator and disseminator of original research on sustainable development issues.

Policy Advisory Role • Serving on various task forces, steering committees, advisory boards for e.g., • SDPI is member of PM’s task forces on Climate Change and Education Reforms; Planning Commission’s Task Force on Social Sector Development; Member of National Forestry Commission (headed by the PM) • SDPI part of official delegation to WTO Ministerial Meetings since Doha till today • SDPI part of official delegations to Climate Change Negotiations (Copenhagen-Cancun) • SDPI – Focal Organization of UNEP in Pakistan
