Problem-Solving • Problem-solving is the integration of troubleshooting and repairing… • and taking steps to prevent problems
Problem-solving Process • Understand the tasks at hand • Understand how to accomplish those tasks
Problem-solving Process • Determine whether there really is a problem • Identify the problem • Consider the activities, uses, and conditions around the system
Problem-solving Process • Correct items that are found defective • Correct items that could cause a problem in the future
Steps 1 and 2 • Know and understand your system • Understand enough about DOS to get a system booted up and to run a program
Steps 3 and 4 • Understand how the software you use is supposed to function • Know what and where your components are
Steps 5 and 6 • Know how to remove and insert components and operate any switches or change jumpers • Recognize text, visual, and audible clues that indicate potential problem spots.
Steps 7 and 8 • Become familiar with your system’s documentation, and keep the technical support number/s for your system and software handy. • Take each aspect of the system and your work step-by-step and eliminate what doesn’t fit the problem - “divide and conquer”
Steps 9 and 10 • Have the proper hand tools to open and change parts in your system • Have the patience and a will to do it.
