WALT: Explain ways in which family life has changed Explain the purpose of family Happy Families We are going to play Happy families The aim of the game is to collect as many families as you can (Mother, Father, two children) Once the cards have been dealt, you need to decide which family/s you are going to collect. Whoever goes first can ask any other player if they have a particular card e.g. Mr bun the baker, if they do they have to hand it over and you get another go. If they don’t have the card it is the next person’s go. When you have collected a family place them face up on the desk and continue the game Success criteria:To achieve a C grade: You need to be able to recognise and explain key words To achieve a B grade: You need to be able to state how family life has changed To achieve an A grade: You need to be able to explain the role of the family and religious attitudes to family

In your tables discuss what you think a family is and come up with a definition of what you think a family is. Teaching- behaviour, customs, religions and traditions Care- for the sick, elderly, and very young Family commitments and responsibilities Support- financial, emotional, physical Shelter- provides a home, food, clothing Identity- gives a sense of belonging, history and legal identity Success criteria:To achieve a C grade: You need to be able to recognise and explain key words To achieve a B grade: You need to be able to state how family life has changed To achieve an A grade: You need to be able to explain the role of the family and religious attitudes to family

Re-Constituted Family – Where 2 or more sets of children (step brothers/sisters) become one family when their divorced parents marry each other. Extended Family – children, parents and grand father/aunts/uncles living as a unit or very near to each other. This is reflected in messages today from the Pope and Archbishop of Canterbury. The family is the place where children learn the difference between right and wrong. It is also the vehicle through which children learn to worship, learn about festivals and are taken to Sunday school. The family is thus important for Christianity to continue. Christian parents are expected to provide the necessities of life including a proper education, food, shelter and an understanding of the Christian faith. Christian children are expected to care for their parents when they cannot care for themselves. Prophet Muhammad remains the perfect example to live by and he was married and raised a family In the Islamic world old people’s homes are very rare. The strain of caring for one’s parents in this most difficult time of their lives is considered an honour and blessing.
