Flattening Layers • When you add layers to files you are increasing the size of the file. • To save file space we can flatten images to reduce the file size • Flattening combines layers into a single background. • You should not flatten an image unless you are satisfied with your final product
Flattening Images • Before you flatten layers in an image it is a good idea to save a backup copy of your work • You can always go to the backup copy and make changes • If you click on the status bar pop-up menu and choose document sizes you can see the actual size of the file and the size of the flattened file. • The first number is the flattened size the second number is the actual size.
Steps to Flatten an Image • Make sure that you are satisfied with your changes • In the menu Choose > Image Duplicate • Name the file Flst.psd and click Ok • Close your original image, but leave the flat file open • Choose Flatten Image from the layers palette menu • Choose File > Save • Save into lesson 6 folder
Project • For this project you are going to create one print advertisement for one of your favorite brands • Using the techniques you learned in lesson six, you will create a multi-layered image • Your image must include text, photo or photos, gradient layer, drop shadows
