  1. L 14:Quadrilaterals At the end of this lesson you will be able to: Understand the definition of a quadrilateral. Understand how quadrilaterals are used in the construction and manufacturing industry Apply life experiences and knowledge to mathematical concepts, procedures, and technology to figure out how to answer a question, solve a problem, make a prediction, or carry out a task that has a mathematical dimension.

  2. Quadrilaterals • Quad – A prefix meaning four • Quadrilateral – A four sided figure.

  3. Quadrilaterals • In having four sides, a quadrilateral also has four angles. The total of those angles is always 360 degrees. • What other shape has 360 degrees? • Circle

  4. Square • All sides are the same length • Opposite sides are parallel • All angles are 90 degrees

  5. Rectangle • Opposite sides same length • All angles are 90 degrees • Opposite sides parallel

  6. Rhombus • All sides are same length • Opposite angles are the same size • Opposite sides are parallel

  7. Parallelogram • Opposite sides same length • Opposite angles same size • Opposite sides parallel

  8. Trapezoid • Sides are not always the same length • Angles are not always the same • One pair of sides is parallel

  9. Find a missing angle ! • To find a missing angle, add up the known angles, then subtract from 360. • 130 130 • 50 x • 130 +130 + 50 = 310 • 360-310 – 50 • Measure of angle x = 50 degrees
