This 5-day course challenges young offenders and NEET individuals to achieve their potential through activities like map reading, caving, and team building. The Airborne Initiative is a 5 day residential course on Dartmoor designed to challenge Young People to help them achieve their potential. The course is aimed at Young Offenders and those not in employment, education or training (NEET). During the course candidates will experience map reading and orienteering, caving, river crossing, adventure training, leadership and team building exercises. The Airborne Initiative gives Young People the opportunity to develop skills in leadership and working as part of a team. It helps build self-worth and also gives the participants a sense of achievement.

Course location Dartmoor
A typical day 0600hrs - Circuit training 0700hrs – Showers then breakfast
0900hrs – 1100hrs A lesson on map reading and orienteering
1200 hrs (midday) Set off on expedition.
Return from expedition………… • 1700hrs – 2000hrs (dependant on return times) Kit check, showers, evening meal, wash-up and tidy away. • 2000hrs – 2200hrs dialogue, quizzes‘ and feedback. • 2200hrs – 2330hrs free time. • Lights out at 2330hrs.
Learning and Skills • Accredited qualifications available in Employability and Functional Skills. • Included sessions in: CV writing, team work, hygiene, leadership skills, disclosure, catering and map reading.
Course overview • The course is a 5 day 4 night residential. • Designed to improve self confidence, self awareness and well-being. • It is run in conjunction with the British Army who support us on expeditions. • All staff are fully trained in all aspects of the Initiative. • The Initiative is open to candidates from Probation, YOT, Prison, Amber and BCHA.
Course Finale • Successful candidates will be presented with a certificate of achievement at the completion of the Initiative.
Please note that there are NO mobile phones or electronic devices allowed during the Initiative course. There will be no access to TV or Radio throughout the week as we try to promote a clear and focused self.
