Geometric Figures and Their Properties (5.1.01) Anderson Vertical Team: Shelley, Valerie, Marjorie, Mari, Marsha, Jane, and Teresa
Pre-K ▲ match, recognize, and name, geometric plane figures using models: circle, triangle, square, rectangle, rhombus, and ellipse (oval).
Kindergarten • name, sort, and describegeometric plane figures using modelsand real-world objects: circle, triangle, square, and rectangle.
1st Grade • name, sort, and describe, build, and drawgeometric plane figures using modelsand real-world objects: circle, triangle, square, rectangle, rhombus, trapezoid, and hexagon.
2nd Grade • ▲ name, sort, describe, build, and drawand solve real-world problems involvinggeometric plane figures: circle, triangle, square, rectangle, rhombus, trapezoid, hexagon, ellipse (oval),and polygon (figures should be recognized independently, as well as, being combined or separated to make a new shape).
3rd Grade • ▲ name, sort, describe, and solve real-world problems involvinggeometric plane figuresandtheir component parts (sides, angles):circle, triangle, square, rectangle, rhombus, trapezoid, hexagon, ellipse (oval),pentagon, octagon, polygon, quadrilateral, and parallelogram (students also need to be able to identify these shapes in a pattern block set).
4th Grade • ▲ identify, name, describeand solve real world problems using the properties ofgeometric figuresand their component parts (sides, angles):circle, triangle, square, rectangle, rhombus, trapezoid, hexagon, ellipse (oval),pentagon, octagon, polygon, quadrilateral, parallelogram, and regular and irregular polygons(figures should be recognized independentlyas well as part of a composite picture).
5th Grade Inside Shape • ▲ identify, name, describeand solve real world problems using the properties ofgeometric figures: regular and irregular polygonsup to 10 sides, circle, and ellipse. (Figures should be recognized independently as wellas part of a composite picture).
