  3. CONFORM • Rom 12:2-The word rendered "conformed" properly means to put on the form, fashion, or appearance of another. It may refer to anything pertaining to the HABIT, MANNER,DRESS, STYLE OF LIVING, etc, of others (Barnes' Notes) • Are we conforming to the World or Christ (Rom8:29; 1Pet1:14)

  4. TRANSFORMATION • complete change: a complete change, usually into something with an improved appearance or usefulness • JUST LIKE METAMORPHOSIS.

BLESS…. • Romans 12:14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not • Its One of The Most Severe And Difficult Duties In Christianity • This precept is taken from the Sermon on the Mount.(Matt 5:44; Luke 6:28). • [Bless, and curse not] Bless only; or continue to bless, however long or aggravated may be the injury. • Bless (that is, Wish and call down by prayer a blessing on) them which persecute you

  6. cont • Give good words, or pray for those who speak bad words to you, who make dire imprecations against you. • Bless them, pray for them • on no account curse them, whatever the provocation may be. • Have the loving, forgiving mind that was in your Lord.

  7. HUMILIATE? EMBARRASS?? • DON’T HUMILIATE OR EMBARRASS YOUR ENEMIES, eg, Joseph made sure no one was in the room when he revealed himself to his brothers • SLAVE GIRL & NAAMAN

CURSE NOT…. • To curse denotes properly to devote to destruction. • it implies the destruction of the object, eg, fig-tree that was cursed by the Saviour soon withered away: Mark 11:21. • to curse implies the invoking of the aid of God to devote to destruction..to implore a curse from God to rest on others; • to pray that God would destroy them. • In a larger sense still, it means to abuse by reproachful words; or to express Oneself in a violent, profane, and outrageous manner. • GIVE ENEMY WATER? OR POISON??

YES!! • When the injured man (a believer) labours to repay curses with blessings and prayers • The enemy’s evil passions will no longer have any motive &incentive; • his conscience is pricked • enemy is disarmed • he finds that he has no use for his weapons; • he beholds in the injured man a magnanimous friend, whose mind is superior to all the insults and injuries which he has received

What do we do? • determine never to permit the heavenly principle that influences your soul to bow itself before the miserable, ordinary, and wretched spirit of revenge • as soon as you begin to avenge yourself, you place yourself at same level with the unprincipled man • He who avenges himself receives into his own heart all the evil and disgraceful passions of his enemy • The voice of eternal reason is "Avenge not yourselves ... overcome evil with good

The ‘lows’ of Joab • REVENGEFUL, UNFORGIVING, FULL OF HATRED • Killed Abner (2Sam3:1-30) • Conspired to kill Uriah (2Sam 11:6-26) • killed Absalom- his nephew (2Sam 18:14-15) • Amasa his nephew (2Sam20:9-12) • NOT IN THE SPIRIT-Joab joined in Adonijah's rebellion and died a shameful death (1King2:28)

  16. FIGHTING IN THE FLESH • DID JOAB FIGHT THE • GOOD FIGHT? AFTER ALL • HE WON THE BATTLES AGAINST • PHILISTINES, ETC • WE ARE FIGHTING AGAINST • ISLAMIC DOMINATION, • ARE WE FIGHTING • IN LINE WITH GOD’S • DICTATES OR WE ARE • FIGHTING IN THE FLESH

Mostly in the flesh • Rom 12:21--Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. • Enemy want us to use his weapons to fight, so they provoke us by any means (false unity, discourage, frighten, frustrate, bribe to cause opposition, letters of accusation, assault! Ezra4, Neh 4, Jn10:10b) • provocations make us mad, but they help prune us to be sharp arrows in GOD’s hand • So, See to it that no-one misses the grace of God &that no bitter root grows to defile many-Heb12:15 …Don’t be provoked to cause injury, persecute, or revile

  19. CHRIST WAS FULL OF GRACE THAT MADE HIM TO OVERLOOK THE SCORN OF MEN & NOT BECOME ANGRY….IT TOOK GRACE TO SUBMIT IN HUMILITY UNTO DEATH, DEATH ON THE CROSS

  20. LOVE CONQUERS ALL • Any love for CHRIST not accompanied with passion for souls is counterfeit • If we passionately hate muslims, how can we show genuine love to them? how can we preach to them? • Jonah hated idea of preaching to ‘enemies’ • Cast your cares on HIM..HIS yoke is Easy

LOVE • ARMENIAN NURSE who treated her brother’s killer & that led him to Christ • When asked ‘how did u forgive those who killed your family?’ Corrie Ten Boom’s dad gave her train tickets just b4 they boarded it…tho he had bought months earlier..Thus our heavenly father gives us grace in any situation we find ourselves..just forgive and He will give the grace • WHITE woman raped by a blackman, became pregnant & gave birth..when she sees the black boy amongst her children-a daily reminder of the tragedy! Yet she chose to forgive the rapist

  22. MINISTRY OF LOVE & FORGIVENESS • CHRIST’S MINISTRY IS LOVE AND FORGIVENESS • EVEN AS HIS ENEMIES, HE DIED FOR US (ROM5:6-10) • MINISTRY OF HATRED IS FROM THE DEVIL • MINISTRY OF MODERN CHURCH- LOVE OR HATE

  23. WHY LOVE? • WHY DOES THE BIBLE INSIST THAT GOD’S PEOPLE ACT IN LOVE? • IT’S SIMPLE, REALLY. WE ARE TO REFLECT OUR FATHER • AND GOD IS LOVE
