What Are We Going To Learn? • How can penguins survive in the coldest place on earth? • Where do they live? • What adaptations do they have that enable their survival? • What do they eat? • How many different kinds of penguins are there? • What are their enemies? • How do they stay safe from enemies?
Students Will Know…. • Geography-continents, hemispheres, oceans, the equator • Adaptations-flippers, webbed feet, oily feathers, blubber, coloring • Food-Seafood consumed and regurgitation to feed young • Variety-16 different kinds • Predators-Who are they and how do penguins keep from being eaten?
Student Action • Students will participate in discussion with peers and teacher. • Students will conduct research about penguins • Students will deliver an oral presentation • Students will develop a document presenting their research.
Unit Activities • Center activities –working in groups to conduct research • Create a power point tool to present orally • Create a document using the Publisher program to present research
