  4. Bacteria Cell Has the following in its structure as well as there functions • nucleoid • Ribosome • capsule • outer membrane • periplasmic space • plasma membrane • pili • Flagella • Lipid Bilayer

  5. Bacteria Cell • Lipid Bilayer - is permeable to water molecules and other small ones, uncharged molecules likeoxygen and carbon dioxide. • Nucleoid – it’s the middle section of the bacteria cell , DNA is confined to this area,Its not bounded by a membrane • Ribosomes - gives the cytoplasm of bacteria a granular appearance in electron micrographs. Its function is similar translating the genetic message in messenger RNA into the production of proteins.

  6. Bacteria Cell • Capsule – it’s a layer of the bacteria cell and protects the cell and is often associated with pathogenic bacteria because it serves as a barrier against phagocytosisby white blood cells. • outer membrane – Is a lipid bilayer found in Gram negative bacteria cells. Its the source of LPS (lip polysaccharide)in these bacteria. LPS is toxic and turns on the immune system

  7. Bacteria cell • Periplasmic space - is found only in those bacteria that have both an outer membrane and plasma membrane. In the space are enzymes and other proteins that help digest and move nutrients into the cell. • Plasma membrane - is another lipid bilayer. A membrane of other cells. There are numerous proteins moving within this layer that are primarily responsible for transport of ions, nutrients and waste across the membrane

  8. Bacteria Cell • Pili -These are hollow, hair like structures made of protein allow bacteria to attach to other cells • Flagella -The purpose of flagella is motility. Flagella are long appendages which rotate by means "of a motor" Bacteria may have one, a few, or many flagella, all in different positions.

  9. Bacteria Cell • Water passes by diffusion from a region of higher to a region of lower concentration • The cell use Osmosis and diffusion to get water and pass it to other concentrations. The process of those two help so that the cell membrane doesn’t burst

  10. Bacteria Cell • Cellular respiration allows organisms to use release energy stored in the chemical bonds of glucose
