  1. Building a Centralized Transport Protocol for Data Centers using SDN

  2. What was the problem again? • Datacenters today • Completion times  Operator Revenue • Utilization  Quality of Service • Recent transport protocols try aim to achieve these (e.g. DCTCP, PDQ, D3 etc.) • Traditionally end-hosts operate independently in networks. This Introduces Inefficiencies: • Lack of global knowledge  Suboptimal performance • Longer convergence time to desired rates • Now with SDN we have a Global View!!! • This enables us to: • Achieve faster convergence to optimal rates • Realize different scheduling algorithms (SRPT, EDF etc) What was the problem again?

  3. I’m fair controller! (for now!) Fair-Sharing Algorithm: Rate = C/n I have been allocated chunk of bandwidth! But is there more available? CONTROLLER Ihsan R! I should Probe the network! Eureka! Now I have a Rate! Adjust Cwnd = rate * rtt Wasay Hey! Must get Rate! Checkpoint 22nd November: Design and implement a resource sharing algorithm in ns-3 R? P? Data Bottleneck Aisha Ayan What have we achieved?
