Uses by the CIA, KGB & Big Brother • Initially used with morphine and chloroform to induce a “twilight sleep” during childbirth. • 1922, Robert House tested scopolamine on 2 criminals who’s guilt was assured. Under the drug both men denied guilt and upon trial were later found not guilty. He concluded patients under scopolamine “cannot create a lie…” (origin of the “truth serum”)
Loss of ‘free will’ • Selective effect on memory, whilst leaving other mental functions alone • Affects the amygdala, pacifying effect
