“Abba, Father,” he said, ‘everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.” Mark 14:36
“For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry “Abba Father.” Romans 8:15
Jesus has a simple question for us: “Do you love me?”
“When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these?” John 21:15a
“Yes Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” John 21:15b
“Again, Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you truly love me?” He answered, “Yes Lord, you know that I love you.” John 21:16a
“Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.” John 21:16b
“The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” John 21:17a
“He said, “Lord you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.” John 21:17b
Staying in love with God was a primary issue of a faithful life then, and it is today
Failures of the past are forgotten and new possibilities are to be embraced
“I tell you the truth, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted;” John 21:18a
“but when you are old you will stretch out your hands and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” John 21:18b
“Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, “Follow me!” John 21:19

The question from Jesus continues for each of us: “Do you love me?”
