  2. Musical Dynamics • Dynamics are indicators of the relative intensity or volume of a musical line.

  3. Pianissimo • PianissimoVery soft. Usually the softest indication in a piece of music.

  4. Piano • PianoSoft. Usually the most often used indication.

  5. Mezzo-piano • Mezzo-pianoLiterally, half as soft as piano

  6. Mezzo-forte • Mezzo-forte Similarly, half as loud as forte. More commonly used than mezzo-piano. Note: if no dynamic appears, mezzo-forte is assumed to be the prevailing dynamic level.

  7. Forte • ForteLoud. Used as often as piano to indicate contrast.

  8. Fortissimo • FortissimoVery loud. Usually the loudest indication in a piece.
