What is a School Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship? • SBATS combine the: • study of Certificate II or III qualification while at school (called formal training) • Combined with paid work (called on-the-job training) • …all while you study for the HSC
The difference between SBT & SBA SBT - Traineeship • A one year traineeship takes two years while in Years 11 and 12 • May allow student to attract an ATAR depending on the qualification • Trainees have the option of staying on with the same employer after Year 12
The difference between SBT & SBA • SBA - Apprenticeship • The first year of an apprenticeship is achieved over two years while in Year 11 and 12. • The student will continue as a full-time apprentice after Year 12 for the remainder of the apprenticeship, usually with the same employer .
How does it happen? • Student chooses a vocation/ industry area and a suitable employer • See Careers Adviser - Mrs Hardman • Approach the employer for work experience • Fill out a ‘Details of My Job’ form. Collect form from Mrs Hardman and return by the end of Year 9 or 10 • Sign-up to the traineeship/apprenticeship occurs before the end of Year 9 or Year 10. • Employment may begin at the start of Yr 10 OR Year 11 to coincide with formal training • * Mrs Hardman will assist you in the process
Requirements • Commitment over two years • Attendance at school and completion of HSC requirements • Attendance at TAFE (if course is not offered at school) • 100 days paid employment over two years (one day per week and half of school holidays) • Responsible attitude towards work and study • A bank account and tax file number
