  2. What is our mission? TPSE Math will facilitate an inclusive movement to strengthen post-secondary education in mathematics by working closely with--and mobilizing when necessary--faculty leaders, university administrations, membership associations, and relevant disciplinary societies in the pursuit of mathematically rich and relevant education for all students, whatever their chosen field of study. TPSE Math will identify innovative practices where they exist, advocate for innovation where they do not, and work with and through partners to implement and scale effective practices, striving throughout to ensure that students and society are enriched by the power and beauty of mathematics.

  3. What are our action priorities? • Lower-Division Pathways: TPSE is part of the seven-member AMPSS coalition, developing multiple math pathways in 2- and 4-year institutions to better align coursework with students’ programs of study and increase completion rates. • Upper-Division Pathways: TPSE promotes reform of upper-division curricula in response to evolving career opportunities and demand from other departments for mathematics courses. • Teaching Technologies and Methodologies: TPSE advises Ithaka, a research group that studies the uses of technology to improve teaching and learning. • Broader Graduate Education: TPSE promotes greater diversity in the discipline, career pathways outside of academia, and better training of graduate students to be more effective teachers.

Upper Division Pathways; 5 regional meetings • New England Regional Meeting on Upper-Division Pathways, WPI - June 11-12, 2018 • Mountain Regional Meeting on Upper-Division Pathways, Utah Valley U - Sept 28-29, 2018 • Southeast Regional Meeting on Upper-Division Pathways, Morehouse College - Feb 22-23, 2019 (planning underway) • TBD • TBD

  5. Outcome of UDP Regional Meetings Regional networks established--1 from each meeting, awarded on competitive basis • Structure • Core team established • At least 6 meetings set over next year • Draft of goals submitted early; end-of-year progress report • Support • $20,000 can be used for meetings, course buy-out for network leader • Technical support from TPSE (consultants)

Next Steps include Grad Ed Regional Meetings East, West, Midwest Similar regional networks will be established and supported In all, we aim to • Create an infrastructure to support data-informed decision making • Create stronger partnerships and collaborations • Cultivate new leaders from mathematics
