Key messages emerging • Broad support to reduce unnecessary prescription and bureaucracy teachers given greater professional judgement • Generally support for the National Curriculum to provide continuity and consistency • Mixed views re NC Levels – some too prescriptive but others provide benchmark for progress www.marialandy.co.uk.   5. Issues emerging • Respondents set out range of knowledge they considered essential for core subjects of English Maths Science and PE • Many favoured Key Stage Programmes of Study rather than year on year www.marialandy.co.uk. National Curriculum and Latest Update 1/1/12

Retention Supported • Many supported retaining art and design, design and technology, geography, history, information and communication technology, modern foreign languages and music within the National Curriculum • Less support for retention of citizenship • Stressed need to allow time and support to implement and embed a new National Curriculum www.marialandy.co.uk. Next Steps • Draft Programmes of Study for English, Mathematics, Science and Physical Education are being developed • These will be shared widely • There will be a formal public consultation • Intention that the NC Programmes of Study will be in schools by September 2013 with teaching in maintained schools to commence from September 2014 www.marialandy.co.uk.
