IWW10 Hosted by JMA, Tokyo, Japan, 22-26 February 2010 46 participants
Sessions • SESSION 1: Operational status • SESSION 2: AMV derivation • SESSION 3: AMVs in NWP • SESSION 4: Characterising AMVs • SESSION 5: Polar AMVs • SESSION 6: Mesoscale • SESSION 7: MISR and ADM • SESSION 8: Open forum and discussion • SESSION 9: Surface winds
Plenary discussions • PD1: Plans to develop a portable AMV processing software package • PD2: Collaborative activities (simulated images ; inter-comparison study...) • PD3: Winds for high resolution NWP • PD4: Process for testing and implementing operational changes
Selected outcome WG1: Methods • Height assignment monitoring for all AMV producers (In response to CGMS-37 R37.23) • IWW10 Support for highly-elliptical orbit mission (In response to CGMS-37 R37.21) • Further inter-comparison studies (In response to CGMS-37 R37.18) • Re-processing of AMV data; Seek IWW10 Support.(In response to the WMO SCOPE-CM (Sustained Coordinated Processing of Environmental Satellite Data for Climate Monitoring)). • Simulated imagery studies (In response to CGMS-37 R37.23) • AMV producers encouraged to try nested tracking.
Selected outcome WG2: Data assimilation • Met Office, ECMWF,CIMSS will continue investigation of layer winds • Met Office will continue investigating individual obserrors. ECMWF will work on correlated obs errors • Broad support for coordinated impact experiments targeted for completion for 11th IWW and 6th WMO GOS Impact Workshop, both during first half of 2012 • Re-processing of AMV data; Seek IWW10 Support.(In response to the WMO SCOPE-CM). • WG2 suggests that the IWWG requests access to all space-based surface wind measurements in near real time • Encourage renewed efforts to test MISR capability in NWP and support proposed initiatives to develop MISR follow-on • Support and encourage efforts to develop hyperspectral wind products.
