  1. “ Does a connection or relationship exist between the reactivity of a metal and when it was discovered? ” AOI Human ingenuity ! Funding and using metals

  2. Sir Humphry Davy An English chemist, Sir Humphrey Davy (1778-1829) pioneered the study of electrochemistry and isolated the elements sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, strontium and barium by electrolysis 1807 AD – 1808 AD. He recognized that chlorine was an element in 1810 AD. His most practical invention was the Davy Lamp, a safety lamp used by miners in he pits.

  3. By Comparing Both of the reactivity of the metal and the date when it was discovered, I can see a relation between the both. The least reactive the metal is the earlier it was discovered. for example; Gold was one of the first metals that were discovered around 6000 BC, and its not reactive at all. Whereas, the recent metals that were discovered and developed by sir Humphrey between 1807-1808 like Potassium and Magnesium are highly reactive.

  4. History of some metals Currently there are 86 known metals, before the 19th century only 24 of these metals had been discovered and of these 24 metals, 12 were discovered in the 18th century. Therefore, from the discovery of the first metals, gold and copper until the end of the 17th century, some 7700 years only 12 metals were known. Four of these metals, arsenic, antimony, zinc and bismuth were discovered in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, while platinum was discovered in the 16th century. The other seven metals, known as the Metal of Antiquity were the metals upon which civilization was based. These seven metals were: Gold 6000BC Copper 4200BC Silver 4000BC Lead 3500BC Tin 1750BC Iron 1500BC Mercury 750BC
