ANSWER Enhancements: version 5.3.10 - 1 • ANSWER now handles cross-region emission constraints • Cross-region emission data parameters GEMLIMT(ENV,YEAR), GEMLIM(ENV) • Accommodated within ANSWER paradigm by introducing special _GLOBAL region • Cross-region emission results parameters GEMLIMT.M(ENV,YEAR), GEMLIM.M(ENV)

ANSWER Enhancements: version 5.3.10 - 2 • ANSWER now handles cross-region user constraints • Cross-region user constraint data parameter RAT__XRRHS(ADRATIO,RTY,YEAR) • Cross-region user constraint results parameter MR_XARAT.M(ADRATIO,RTY,YEAR) • Documented in new section 11 of ANSWER User Manual “Cross-Region Constraints in ANSWER”

  4. ANSWER Enhancements: version 5.3.10 - 3 • Operation of Batch Run facility greatly simplified • Click on [Add…] on Batch Run form and “Batch Run Case Selection” form appears • Multi-select the Cases that you want to add to the Batch Run form and click [OK]

  5. ANSWER Enhancements: version 5.3.10 - 4 • New “Import Results Automatically” checkbox for Run Model • Allows Results for successful Runs to be automatically imported into ANSWER • Applies for both Run Model and Batch Run • Handles single-region, multi-region, and single-region stochastic

  6. ANSWER Enhancements: version 5.3.10 - 5 • Import SAGE GAMS DDs (generated out of VEDA-SAGE) into ANSWER via enhanced “File, Import GAMS DD” facility • “Import GAMS DD” also handles import of MUSS- and ANSWER-generated GAMS DDs

ANSWER Enhancements: version 5.3.10 - 6 • Generate DD and DDS files part of Run Model recoded - sped up by a factor of 25 • e.g. for large multi-region ASEAN database with many non-BASE scenarios, generate DD time reduced from 7 minutes to 15 seconds • Delete Case recoded to speed up, plus new ‘Remember Case Definition’ facility • Retain full information about the Case (model variant, end year, scenarios, regions) and just delete online TS and TID results for the Case

  8. ANSWER Enhancements: version 5.3.10 - 7 • New “Edit, Delete All Cases” facility • Very fast even for very large database (< 1 second) • Optional ‘Remember Case Definition’ facility • Optional ‘Automatically Repair and Compact Database after Delete’ facility, also very fast

  9. ANSWER Enhancements: version 5.3.10 - 8 • New “File, Export Scenario Data to Excel” facility • Exports Scenario data to Excel in identical format to that required by ANSWER’s “File, Import Model Data from Excel” facility

ANSWER Enhancements: version 5.3.10 - 9 • “File, Export Scenario” and “File, Import Scenario” both enhanced by leaving form up to facilitate multi-scenario export/import • “File, Import Scenario” further enhanced for multi-scenario import by addition of ‘Use IMP Filename as Scenario Name’ checkbox • And streamlined handling where creation of new Scenario is involved

ANSWER Enhancements: version 5.3.10 - 10 • 100 character long Descriptions now allowed for Scenarios, Cases and Items (Items = Technologies, Energy Carriers etc) • Various forms are user-resizable (and remember their last size and position) for ease of operation and handling of long Descriptions

ANSWER Program of Work post-Firenze Meeting - 1 • Complete the testing of AnswerV5.3.10 and advise ETSAP members and other ANSWER clients how to download V5.3.10 upgrade from the web • Integrate documentation of all recent enhancements into ANSWER User Manual PDF • Case Comparison facility for Results • Incorporate SAGE MKTSHR into ANSWER once GAMS-MARKAL code for MKTSHR is finalized • Import GAMS DD further enhanced to allow import into non-BASE scenarios • “Batch of Related Cases” facility (extension of Batch Run)

ANSWER Program of Work post-Firenze Meeting - 2 • “Export Model Data to Excel” facility further enhanced to allow greater user control of what is exported, and the Excel file and sheet exported to • Do what is needed to create special ANSWER-ETP for more general distribution – a substantial task • Streamline the special Library region facilities in the ETP AnswerV5.exe • New chapter 10 for ANSWER User Manual “Library Database Implementation” to replace existing (superceded) chapter 10 • Review ANSWER with an eye to improving/simplifying areas that are not very user-friendly (e.g. multi-select wherever possible) • Consider systematic incorporation of right-mouse click menu options • Consider incorporation of on-line context-sensitive help
