Brief History • Founded in NY in 1799. • When it was founded, it served as an agent for Europeans to invest in the US. • It helped the Allied victory in WWI because it loaned money to the French for supplies. • It acquired 5 banks in the 1920s and branches in Cuba and Panama. • It merged with the Trust Co. of NY in 1930. • Its principal banks are: • J.P.Morgan & Co., The Chase Manhattan Bank, Bank One, Manufacturers Hanover Trust Co., Chemical Bank, The First National Bank of Chicago and National Bank of Detroit.
