  2. History • The ancient theatre was build between 340 B.C and 330 B.C from architect Polyclitus as says Pausanias. • The theatre had capacity 15.000 Spectators. Is divided in 2 parts the top and the down part. The top part have 21 line to sit the people and in the down part is 34 lines to sit the priests and the lords.

  3. The excavations • The ancient theatre was discovered after the excavations by the archeologist PanagiotisKavagias in 1870-1926. • A few years later after the excavations in 1930 staged the first performance at the ancient theatre of epidaurus.

  6. Some information • The theater of Dionysus is located on the south side of the Acropolis was the center of theatrical performances were organized in ancient Athens • . To the Great Dionysia celebrated late March to early April, all Athenian citizens watching theater games which financed affluent citizens (sponsors).

History • The theater of Dionysus is located on the south slope of the Acropolis in Athens, is an integral part of the sacred of Dionysus and is directly connected with the myths and worship of God. • The humongous size of the theater acquired only after the middle of the 4th century BC • The general shape was irregular, depressed on the east side of the much earlier Odeon of Pericles, which adjoins the theater, and on the west by the need to keep an important uphill road.
