System Development 2005 Progress 1) Service Delivery System • Supported increased staff credentialing in Job Centers ($22k) • Provided input on Job Center standards and definitions • Awarded grants to retrain and reemploy laid-off workers • Coordination and Collaboration • Established Baldrige Self-Assessment for WDBs ($27.5k) • Gathered information on Milwaukee Workforce System ($60k for UW-M Landscape grant) • Maximizing Resources • Supported the Medicaid Infrastructure Grant; established Executive Committee sub-committee to advise DHFS and DWD on the grant – chaired by Representative Josh Zepnick Council on Workforce Investment December 9, 2005
Strategies2005 Progress 4) Workforce Information • Published Inventory of Wisconsin’s Workforce, Education and Training Programs • Approved SWTC evaluation study of 1996 plant closing of Advance Transformer in Platteville ($9.5k) • Workforce Preparation and Support • Supported state legislation in Youth Apprenticeship & Committee on Baccalaureate Expansion recommendations • Supported Carl Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act and Adult Family Literacy Act at the federal level • Targeted Regional-Sectoral Priorities • Created GROW Grant Program - $390,500 Council on Workforce Investment December 9, 2005
2006 Planned Committee Activities System Development • Present Milwaukee System recommendations(March) • Advise Governor on various Job Center System improvements • Develop “Dashboard” system of measures for program performance Strategies • Implement the Regional Metrics Initiative • Provide guidance on DWD’s 2006 Labor Market Information grant • Develop comprehensive Advanced Manufacturing Initiative to incorporate; • WTCS Advanced Manufacturing Solutions, • WMEP recommendations, • COWS Advanced Manufacturing Project • Career education to attract young people to manufacturing • Work Keys and Skills Standards Tools • Develop linkages with Select Committee on Healthcare Workforce Development Council on Workforce Investment December 9, 2005
