Damage Assessment & Repair Teams • First responders - Assess damage to CG shore facilities following a disaster • Primary Goal – Restore operational capability & mission readiness to the unit • 2-3 individuals from Civil Engineering Units (CEU) or Facilities Design & Construction Center (FD&CC) • Mobilize prior to event (i.e. before landfall) when possible. • Prioritize repair work and direct CG Repair Teams

  7. Hurricane Katrina CG Facts • 7 Small Boat Stations damaged, 3 were destroyed. • 4 larger bases heavily damaged, 1 was a total loss. • Aids to Navigation: 99% damaged or destroyed, 1,815 ATON discrepancies • Over 5,000 Coasties deployed: More than 10% of entire CG!

  8. Hurricane Ike 2008 • 3rd costliest hurricane ever to make U.S. landfall • Coast Guard Disaster Relief Funds totaled $230MIL • CG facilities in Corpus Christi & Galveston hardest hit
