Master’s Thesis – HiRadMat • Commissioning and Evaluating a novel diamond-based BPM system • Requirements: • Usable for full intensity range of HiRadMat (SPS beam, 1 pilot of ~10^9 to 288 nom bunches of ~10^11 ppb ACHIEVED • Precision in position and beam size of ~0.1 mm SLIGHTLY LESS ACHIEVED • Bunch-by-bunch time resolution ACHIEVED • Single diamond thin film • Hole in center for beam core to pass • Halo measured by four electrodes • Simple linear model for reconstruction Self Presentation B.Lindstrom
PhD Project • Study and understand fast failures in regard to the new magnets for HL-LHC (D1, D2, Q4, Q5, triplet), crab cavities and new beam optics • Time scales, impact on beam trajectory • Loss estimation • Detection methods, direct and indirect • Develop a novel detection system using fast BLMs Self Presentation B.Lindstrom
