Thesis Statement: Why should you become a psychologist? • Becoming a psychologist is a good career to pursue because of what psychology actually is, it betters people’s lives, one can work in many places, psychologist are well paid, the education required, and the difference one can make in another’s life.

  3. Topic Sentence #1: What is psychology? • - Evidence #1: The scientific study of the human mind and its functions, esp. those affecting behavior in a given context. • - Evidence #2: The scientific study of the human mind and its functions, esp. those affecting behavior in a given context.

  4. Topic Sentence #2: Why psychology is a very important job? • - Evidence #1: It helps people live better, happier lives. • - Evidence #2: Psychologist are there when no one else seems to have the right answer.

Some psychologists work shift schedules, including those employed in hospitals, nursing homes, retirement centers and other health care facilities. • - Evidence #2: Quiet, confidential one on one conversations.

Topic Sentence #4: How much, and how long? • - Evidence #1: The lowest-earning psychologists make less than $35,000 per year and the highest paid psychologists earn more than $102,000 per year. • - Evidence #2: Some psychologists have their own offices, and set their own hours, and some work as a team. (Hospitals, nursing homes etc.)

Earn Certifications • - Evidence #2: Although those with a bachelor's degree may find employment with the Federal government, competition is keen. As such, most individuals interested in becoming a psychologist pursue graduate studies. After schooling is complete, psychologists need to meet professional standards for licensure.

Topic Sentence #6: What are some attributes of a psychologist? - Evidence #1:Communication Skills: A great psychologist has excellent written and oral communication skills and can effectively communicate with diverse groups of people. - Evidence #2: Patience: A great psychologist is very patient, both during long periods of research and with individual patients. They understand that significant periods of time can pass before substantial results can be seen.

  9. Topic Sentence #8: Why you should become a psychologist? • - Evidence #1: So you can make a difference in people’s lives. • - Evidence #2: Becoming a psychologist will not only help other people, but it will also help your very own self understand everyday obstacles better.
