RESEARCH PROJECT «CINEMATOGRAPHY – NOW AND THEN» STATE BUDGET EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION COMPREHENSIVE SECONDARY SCHOOL №204 NAMED AFTER A.M. GORKY Done by group of students of the 8th form supervised by N.L. Makarova
We often go to the cinema. We have got an opportunity to watch films of different genres with a lot of special effects: 3D, i-max ect. • Why do we want to go to the cinema: to enjoy ourselves, to learn something new or to think about our lives? Why do we want to watch the movies which have greater «box-office» success best of all? Maybe it is so because the film industry became a business long ago and does not create any works of art which can expand our range of interests or help us to develop mentally? INTRODUCTION
The goal - to identify the reason turning cinematography into a big business. • The problem :Has cinematography turned into a business from a piece of art and why? • The subject – the films having been produced lately. • The hypothesis: Cinematography reacts upon the tastes of cinema-goers and it has become a good source of making money?
The tasks: • To collect necessary information. • To analyze, organize and generalize the material and draw our conclusion. • To conduct a public survey and use them in our work. • To analyze the popularity of Russian films.
The methods of research: • Analysis • Generalization • Deduction • The method of a public survey • The methods of sociological research
Cinematography is: • A branch of a human activity • A kind of contemporary fine art • The science which deals with the study of cinematography.
Cinematography has been changing all the time: from silent black-and-white to colour with surround sound and super special effect. Unfortunately, it is becoming harder to find a real work of art nowadays. The 19th century Silent, Black-and-white, Short The 20th century Sound, Colour, Special effect. The 21st century Super special effect, 3D, I-max, Ect
Trying to find out the reason of what is happening in this industry we organized the survey, in which 136 respondents of different ages took part. THE RESULTS OF THE SOCIOLODICSE SURVEY
The respondents consider the most unpopular genres of nowadays: Documentaries – 24 persons – 17% Old silent films -14 persons – 10% Melodramas – 12 persons – 9%
Analyzing the situation in Russian cinematography in previous year, we could see that the most popular genre among the films was a comedy as well. These films have rather good «box-office».
The respondents of our survey also tried to define a good and a bad film. We generalize the results: • A good film is true to life, with common sense, a good plot, good acting, directing and great special effects. It must be unforgettable. • A bad film is a complete contrast to the foregoing.
After analyzing the results of our work, we confirm our hypothesis: cinematography reacts upon the tastes of cinema-goers and it has become a good source of making money. CONCLUSION
