  1. Tucker Fellowship Summer 2011 Miriam JerotichKilimo ’14 Marakwet Girls and Women Project, Kenya Female genital mutilation and girl-child education Miriam Kilimo '14

  2. I travelled all over Marakwet East Constituency in Kenya, talking with girls about the dangerous effects of female genital mutilation, and the great value that education has on their lives. I learned that not everything can always go the way we plan, especially changing people and culture. But changing the life of one person is worthwhile. After distributing sanitary towels to girls Female genital mutilation has shaped the course of my life, right from the time my mother ran away. I am where I am today because of the choice of one woman. Hence, I will strive to ensure that the life story of every other Marakwet girl is better than my mother’s and my own. I will not settle at anything less. Miriam Kilimo '14 Talking to the girls
