  1. Color Perception Notes White light breaks into… the colors of the visible light spectrum.

  2. Most materials absorb light of some frequencies and reflect the rest.

  3. For example… Bananas reflect YELLOW! Apples reflect RED!

  4. FREQUENCY RANGE for VISIBLE LIGHT REDhas the lowest frequency on the visible light spectrum. VIOLEThas the highest frequency on the visible light spectrum.

  5. If a material absorbs a certain frequency of light, that frequency will not be reflected, so its color will not be perceived by the observer.

  6. If the material does not absorba certain frequency of light, that frequency will be reflected, so its color will be perceived by the observer. CFU #1: Which colors are absorbed by the leaf? CFU #2: Which color is reflected?

  7. If all colors of light are reflected by a material, it will appear white. If all colors of light are absorbedby a material, it will appear black. Can you think of… • CFU #3: What would be an example of a material that reflects all colors? • CFU #4: What would be an example of a material that absorbs all colors?

  8. The color we see depends on two things: • What are they? • 1.) The color of light shined on the object. • 2.) The color of the light reflected by an object. Ex. Black Light (UV) vs. White light (Visible Light) CFU #5: What other animal have we discussed in class that would see in a different wavelength/ frequency?

  9. Color Filtersallow only certain colors of light to pass/ transmit through them; they absorb or reflect all other colors. CFU #6: If an object absorbs the “ROGBIV” of the Visible Light Spectrum, what color will it appear?
