5. A basic “desktop” computer…
…or a portable “laptop”
6. Some technical terms you need to know before we start:
Download – The transmission /copy of a file from one computer system to another
Upload – The transmission /copy of a file in the other direction
Desktop – A computer designed to fit on top of a desk, typically with a monitor
Laptop (Notebook) – A portable computer small enough that you can sit on your lap
Computer Network – A group of 2 or more computer systems linked together
Wireless Connection (Wi-Fi) – A type of network connection that doesn’t use wires
Internet (Web) – A global network connecting millions of computers around the world
Website (Webpage) – A site posted on the Internet which contains information
Internet Address (URL) – The name of the website, also called “Web Address”
User – An individual that uses a computer
Username – Name used to gain access to a computer system
Password – A secret series of character that enables a user to access a system
Server – A computer or device on a network that manages network resources
Workstation – The computer(s) connected to a network

17. Use common sense when accessing Web Sites (The server keeps a Log file of all the activities executed by the users)
Avoid opening suspicious Web Sites and e-mail attachments (specially messages from senders that you don’t know!!!)
If you have any technical difficulties regarding the equipment or software, please ask for assistance. Don’t try to fix it yourself
Use your time wisely and try to learn as much as possible
No printers available at this moment. So please bring your personal storage device, such as a flash drive or CD to save your work and take it with you
Don’t save anything in the local computer for the next visit.

18. Computer Room Use Guidelines Computer room access is only for official members who have attend the Computer 101 training (membership card with sticker)
Do put your cell phone on vibrate
No food or drinks in the computer room
Refrain from loud talking or loud music
Be respectful of others when using the computer room
Always sign in when using the computer room
If there is a waiting list, limit your computer use to one hour only
