  2. More than 9 million new TB cases and nearly 2 million TB-related deaths occur each year. WHO reports that about 440 000 new cases of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis emerge annually, causing at least 150 000 deaths. Extensively drug resistant tuberculosis has been reported in 64 countries to date. Tuberculosis
