  2. Theresa Beatty | The Real Issues Theresa Beatty is a social worker in LaGrange, Georgia, who is currently working as a family and divorce mediator. She says that in her experience, what families argue about is often not what the real issue is. In such cases it is her job to helping people get to the root of what is really troubling them. Theresa Beatty | Climate Change Climate change refers to the concentration of carbon dioxide and other so-called "greenhouse" gases that have accumulated the atmosphere to produce a greenhouse effect, which has resulted in the average surface temperature in the world to increase by about 0.6 degrees Celsius over the last one hundred years. The change in temperature and climate patterns have already had a major impact on the earth, resulting in changes in rainfall patterns, melting polar ice caps, a greater frequency of major storm systems like hurricanes, and other adverse effects. There are still those who dispute whether these climate changes are genuine, but scientists have established so many facts now that the issue is no longer in serious debate. Some scientists are predicting that the average global temperature could increase by as much as six degree Celsius in the twenty-first century – an alarming possibility that has ever-greater numbers of people calling on governments to act now to do something about it.

It is one of the most commonly used methods of reaching terms in a divorce, or in some other family-related dispute that reaches the courts. In such cases, a neutral third party is agreed to by the two opposing sides. In divorce proceedings this third party, called a mediator, meets with the two sides to identify and discuss the issues relating to the divorce, and reach an agreement that is acceptable to both sides. It is not up to the mediator, but to the two parties involved in the divorce, to make the decisions.
