Bienniel Survey • The Division of Forestry has been tasked with monitoring (not enforcing) BMP compliance • This is accomplished through a statewide survey every other year • Results are published in a public report available through your BMP forester
Bienniel Survey -process • Fly over each county identifying recent silviculture activity and logging it using GPS • Using property appraiser web sites, determine landowner. • Contact landowner to confirm work has been done recently, it is for silvicultural purposes, and request permission to do a survey on their property • Perform an audit on the site and inform the landowner of the results • Compile data
What else does DOF do with BMP’s? Delegated by the Department of Environmental Protection’s State Water Quality Program to be responsible for: • Development of BMP’s • Training in the use of BMP’s • Educating the public on the silvicultural use of BMP’s to protect water quality
