Working in academia, she is surrounded by some of the smartest people on the planet. She stays up to date by listening to students, staff, and researchers talk about what excites them, attending industry events, observing trends through social media, and constantly reading innovation reports and journals to understand why and how something piques her interest. Setting Realistic Expectations for a Balanced Life Flexibility and acceptance that she can't do everything are keys to a good work- life balance. Having a supportive spouse who takes it all in stride is also a huge help. She might join a video conference while waiting for her son to finish his tennis lesson and lean on another dance mom to help with her daughter's hair and makeup for a dress rehearsal. When she joined AIML during its second year of operation, they had 80 members, of which only a handful were female. Today, 21% of their members are female, which aligns with industry standards. The Institute has also created a Gender Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity (GEDI) charter that works to end all forms of systemic discrimination and foster an inclusive working environment where everyone feels respected, heard, valued, and supported.
