  2. Reality • All corporations must earn money for their shareholders. (Return on Investment) • All corporations want to ensure their future viability. • It’s all in the “rules of engagement” • every company knows that it needs a license to operate. • Municipal business license • Provincial “license to operate” • Association such as CCPA (Canadian Chemical Producers Association), ERCB (Energy Resources Conservation Board) etc. • They all need staff – potentially your volunteers!

  3. Profit and ……. • All Corporations want to be seen as good citizens • Corporate Goals • Sustainability goals • Economic • Environmental • Social

  4. Partnerships • Look for opportunities to work together. • Look beyond traditional common ground and engage the broader community • Habitat for Humanity. Dow is a global supporter and has a long standing history as a materials supplier and project sponsor. • TD Great Canadian Shoreline Clean up. Dow has been a sponsor of this initiative for many years and supplies garbage bags for the activity.

  6. Volunteers - Reality • Not a unique problem – • Volunteerism is down • Volunteers are getting older • The Fire Department can be used as the “barometer” of community volunteer engagement • Retention – What are you doing?

What’s in it for me? • Recognition – What’s in it for me? • Asked by both the volunteer and the corporation • Volunteers want to make a difference • Need short term results • Want meaningful work • Corporations • Same • Prestige that comes with their recognized employee • Improved service through ownership and intimate knowledge • familiarity

How do we get started? • Cultured relationship – doesn’t just happen • Large mass to set into motion • Seek an opportunity to work together - partnership • What are their specific goals • Look for synergies • Where is each others need • Can you equate the contribution to a dollar value. • Partnerships – • Pancake breakfast • Training program • Fire truck restoration project • Employees need to include in personal development goals
