Healthy Mental Development of Young Children in Iowa • Mechanics of Demonstration Site Implementation • Base your project on solid principles, sound science, and documented community/state need • Always consider your project as a “community” project to ensure public/private partnership • Know your project design and potential barriers well so that you can “sell” it to a variety of audiences • Determine the characteristics of the community so that the project corresponds with needs and priorities • Spend sufficient time with the practice leaders to ensure they fully understand the purpose, what is expected of them, and that they endorse the project purpose and plan

Orientation? Skills? • How Best Accomplished? Improvement not change! • Devise Evaluation Plan Before Implementation • Reassure – not total practice revision (but it was our end goal!)
Healthy Mental Development of Young Children in Iowa • Maintain Communication with Practices • Be flexible with communication styles with each practice • Plan and coordinate consultation with community time schedules and desires • Maintain ongoing dialogue with all components of the community project and respond to questions and concerns quickly
