LEARN @ St. Stephen’s • Fall 2010 launched our 11thyear of afterschool programming! • Serving 70 youth from K2 to 5th grade • Academics: homework support; tutoring in reading, math, science ; and technology classes • Enrichment: values, acting, art, music, yoga, knitting & more • Field trips: ice skating, museums, libraries, colleges • Special Events: Harvest Day, reading party, cultural day • Volunteers: 110weekly volunteers
LEARN @ Lenox • This is our 3ndyear here! • Serving 42youth from K2 to 5th grade (more than 50% increase in 2 years!) • One of the few programs serving young people who live in Lenox neighborhood • Academics & Enrichment & Field Trips & Special Events! • Excellent visual art program for teens including some from Lenox • More than 25 volunteers from 5 programs at Northeastern thanks to our Mass Promise Fellow • Partnership with St. Augustine & St. Martin and All Saints’ Brookline= Turkey Wahoo with 30 volunteers and Christmas party with new book for each child
Youth Leadership Corps (YLC) • Love and Limits contract and Circles • Single gender to single group • Strong group, supportive, high attendance • Lots of Life Skills workshops • Choice Time, life skills workshops, Academic Time • College and Career Support • relationships with NEU, Emerson (theater), Boston University (art lab),
The S2POT (St. Stephen’s Place of Opportunity for Teens) • 91 summer jobs • 28school year jobs • Job Training and Life Skills workshops (interview skills, healthy relationships, workplace • College & Career Support Team (24 pairs, twice as many as last year) • Mission Scholars—4 teams went to Honduras (2), New York City, New Orleans • Weekly academic night • Art with Culture for Change and Wheelock College’s Ubuntu Project • Community Organizing to rejuvenate Blackstone greenhouse (working with The Food Project) • Rap sessions & Circles • Teen Youth group
YASSYoung Adults @ St. Stephen’s • Working together to build a partnership for improved public education at Blackstone • Two service days at Blackstone School with more than 250 people volunteering! • Four YASS teams of leaders: • Library • Greenhouse • Classroom volunteers • Spiritual reflection • Great press and recognition • St. Stephen’s representation on school site council • Exploring how to expand parent involvement
B-SAFE 2010 • 7 sites, 7 weeks (training, 5 wks program in city, BCH) • 528 young people participated; new registration system • Academics= Word, Numbers Club, DEAR time, Tech, SCIENCE!! • Enrichment=Art, Music, Cooking, Values, Field trips!! • Jobs= 91 teens; 10 young adults; 70+ adults • 55 partner churches; 900+ v0lunteers
Science All Year Round • Mad Science days at 5 B-SAFE sites • Harvard Med School students taught science to YLC at 2 B-SAFE sites • BU Wizards and Leads (with help of Academic Coordinator and INCRE) teaching science during B-READY • Teens learning about life sciences and BPS science curriculum through organizing project
